A Message From “The Family”: On Dreaming

ImageThere is no one way to interpret the multidimensional, emotional, contextual, and physical phenomena you call dreams. This is because no one dreams in the same way. Even a symbol in a dream can shift meaning from one frame of the dream to another.

It is a mistake we feel to assume that all dreams have messages hidden within them. Some dreams simply manifest as expressions of digestive difficulty or of immune system attack struggles. However, those dreams that do convey meaning appear to fall into the following categories:

1. Dreams of Revisiting the Past: These are very common sorts of dreams, in which the dreamer finds him or herself in surroundings, or talking with persons, known from previously in his or her lifetime. The emotional contact of such dreams can be nostalgic and pleasant, or tense and fraught with worry. Such dreams can yield useful data on unresolved past events about which the dreamer is still conflicted, for the consciousness level of To Blame often makes itself known through dreams of the past.

2. Dreams of Friends and Family Still Living: Dreams of persons known to be still living by the dreamer are, if pleasant, frequently experiences in the nonphysical of the two energies of the two individuals meeting and communing in the dream state during sleep. Sometimes these dreams also are simple rehashes of already experienced physical events, but where they are not they often signify an actual meeting of souls in the dreamtime.

3. Dreams of Danger, Horror, and Dread: Nightmares, as such dreams are called, frequently contain biophysical vectors: substances being cleared from the body, immune system attacks being warded off, or past trauma rising up in symbolic form to demand scrutiny, voice, and clearing. Such dreams usually reflect anxieties also experienced in the waking state [and as such mirror the consciousness level of To Threaten]. If one is feeling vulnerable at work or in a relationship or at school, for example, one might dream of being naked in public. And so forth. (Mister Rand does not feel we need to give further examples.)

4. Dreams of Delight and Mystery: Dreams of delight and mystery are often called numinous dreams, dreams that transcend spacetime and represent experiences of the Divine. This is not always the case, particularly when the dreamer is an imaginative person or has witnessed a particularly moving moving picture on television or in the theatre. But true numinous dreams always contain a very very vivid certainty that they are Reality as or more real than the waking state.

5. Dreams of Frustration or Seeking: Dreams in which the dreamer finds him or herself unable to complete a desired task often indicate attempts in the planning state to chart a course in physical reality from where you really are to where you really wish to be, attempts that are feeling incomplete or frustrated to the dreamer. Mister Rand frequently dreams of seekiing his car in a parking lot and finding it has been moved or he has forgotten where it is. Such a dream can signify that the dreamer is seeking an opportunity for love or prosperity but cannot figure out how or where to find such experiences. Such a dream can also signify that the dreamer has been traveling in the dreamtime from one level of reality to another, and is now attempting to chart a course back into thought reality and space-time so that he or she may awaken.

6. Dreams Sent By God: Some kinds of dreams are, or appear to be, direct communications from the Holy Spirit of the Creator to the dreamer. Sometimes this is true and sometimes it is not. If the dream contains force, threat, or blame attitudes then it is not from the Creator. And what do we mean by “the Creator”? We mean the dreamer him- or herself. For as we see these matters, all reality is a dream in which all of us join to collaborate, and the physical events of spacetime are projections of agreements already made in the dream state and physical planning state, even horrific ones such as force, threat, and blame events. [Rand: To me this paragraph makes no sense. Just saying.]

Many traditional cultures offer dream interpretation  services from priests or shamans or (as you would term them now) psychotherapists and psychics. There are also books that purport to contain interpretations of dream symbols. We suggest availing yourself of such resources if you feel they might be helpful at stimulating your insights. But we again urge caution: as Mister Rand’s mother Kaye often remarked, “Although Doctor Freud said that a cigar appearing in a dream actually represented a penis, in fact sometimes a cigar [in a dream] is just a cigar.” And this we feel is true.

The best way to interpret a dream we feel is either to write it out or draw it or both. Then take each frame of the dream in turn and treat it as a dream of its own. Each element—person, place, thing, feeling—in the frame represents something in or concerning you the dreamer. Take one element and ask yourself, “What does this remind me of in my own life?” For dream symbols are often analogies. Sometimes they are even puns. For example, a person concerned overly with the size of her posterior might dream of some large rabbits (or “buns”).

Sometimes it also may be helpful to talk through the dream with an insightful individual who knows you well. If after attempting to understand your dream you appear to fail, do not despair or feel that the Greater Self has abandoned you. Simply release the dream. Your unconscious will find another way to communicate with you, either through another dream or through a serendipitous utterance or event in your waking life. And we thank you for sharing.

A Message From “The Family”: On the Yearning For Love

homelessmenhuggingMister Rand has been involved of late with much pain concerning loves lost, ignored, feared, or missed.  He wonders whether he will ever find freedom from his inner child’s need to cleave to another and depend upon another totally for his sustenance, a need that has interfered with Mister Rand’s ability to relate to a beloved equal to equal. So he asks, What is it that I am fated for? Am I fated never to find a partner because of my wounds? And we know that many people ask similar questions much of the time.

We cannot provide Mister Rand [with] an answer that will satisfy him emotionally, because from our viewpoint, and the viewpoint of the Greater Self, Mister Rand is surrounded, filled, and made by Love for Itself, just [as] are all beings that exist in physical reality…And from the Greater Self’s point of view, love is never lost. It cannot be lost, because it is the stuff of which realities are constructed. It is reality itself.

But how can this be true? asks Mister Rand. In physical reality there is so much hate and pain. How can Love lie at the heart of all realities when this reality has so much evil in it? And again we say, there is no answer that can satisfy Mister Rand on the heart chakra level. For in part he still cleaves to the notion of God as omnipotent and separate from both Mister Rand and creation itself. And we do not see this as the truth.

As your writer George Macdonald once wrote, God is made of Love in all parts of Himself, and thinks nothing of Himself, but only of how He may woo His Creation back to Himself.  For God does not need anyone to love God. For God, it is enough that you love yourselves, for God does not see the divine nature as separate from you. Love one another and you love God. Love the animals and you love God. Love the trees and you love God. Love those who hate and persecute you, for they are trapped in the endless cycle of force threat and blame which narrows and narrows and narrows their consciousness until the only thing that exists for them is raw unfulfillable need. This state of raw unfulfillable need is what your writers sometimes refer to as Hell, and as Mister Rand knows only too well, one can be in Hell while still on Earth.

But  there is hope. For returning to Love is inevitable. In the end, everyone and everything is safe. Though your corporations destroy this world a thousand times over, it will be reborn. Though your religious individuals quarrel and condemn and are condemned in turn by your nonreligious individuals, beneath all this furor Love is still present. And the way one can know this is true is simply by observing that, when Love is accepted as a foundation for all one’s dealings, all one’s dealings thrive. If Love were illusory, loving others and oneself would not produce happiness and joy. They would produce only hunger for more love. For understand this: the yearning-love of which Mister Rand speaks is not Love in the way we see things.

Yearning-Love is a state of consciousness that arises when one fears to believe that one is worthy of being loved. It is a state of consciousness that arises when one demands that God prove to one that one is lovable by sending one the perfect match. And there is no such creature on Earth or in Heaven except Love itself.

We are sorry that Mister Rand is in pain. We are sorry that he thinks that because he has more flesh on his skeleton than is healthy for him that he is an abomination and desolation; that because he is homosexual God does not want him; that because he did not save his brothers or mother or father or lover or dogs from their illnesses and deaths that he has failed Love. Physical reality is the only reality where pain is available, but its wonders are far more numerous than its pains. One must however be willing and able to see the goodness and love around one, and until one has felt fully one’s force threat and blame wounds, given them a voice, treated them with tenderness and consolation, and cradled them not to cling to them but to parent them as they were never parented, until one is willing to do this, one will feel cut off from the Love that is at the center of oneself and everything else.

And so we encourage all who suffer from unsatisfied longing for love: breathe into your heart and let out the breath slowly. Let yourself relax and soften around the clenched fist within you. Let yourself feel a bit more of the pain you are pushing out of sight, give it a voice, paint its picture, write down what it says to you. And invite Love into it. Try this with yourself for a month, and see how you feel at the end of this time. And we thank you for sharing.

To Accept With Intent To Learn

Image

At the heart of consciousness is a level I call To Accept With Intent To Learn. One achieves this level of consciousness simply by saying, “Yes,” to whatever spiritual, intellectual, emotional, or physical pain one finds oneself resisting.  Please note that “To Accept With Intent To Learn” is not the same thing as:

  • To agree that the pain is just;
  • To agree that I deserve the pain because I am a bad person;
  • To surrender to the pain and let it overwhelm me;
  • To wallow in the pain; or
  • To glorify the pain as a some kind of spiritual, moral, or ethical martyrdom.

To Accept With Intent To Learn means that I accept that this is the situation I am experiencing right now and that I wish to acknowledge it fully so I may learn from it. In other words, I agree to cooperate fully with the reality of a painful situation so that the problem underlying the pain can be solved and the suffering can be relieved.

Taking this attitude of acceptance instantaneously raises consciousness from the uncreative levels I call To Control Absolutely, To Force, To Threaten, and To Blame to the next level of consciousness, which I call To Understand Physically.

Many of us find it much easier to accept and learn from others than we do to accept and learn from ourselves. Therefore the flip side of To Accept With Intent To Learn is To Accept Oneself With Intent To Learn. Taking this attitude of self-acceptance instantaneously raises consciousness from the uncreative levels I call To Permit Oneself To Be Controlled Absolutely, To Be Forced, To Be Threatened, and To Accept Blame That One Does Not Deserve to the next level of consciousness, which I call To Understand Oneself Physically.

NEXT: To Understand Physically.

To Threaten

Image

Slightly more creative than To Force is the consciousness level that I call To Threaten. Persons operating on this consciousness level live in the future almost exclusively. As a result, their power and resources are consumed in barricading themselves against enemies that may not yet exist and disasters that may never materialize. Consumed by fear and dread, they may project onto innocent bystanders their fears of betrayal and humiliation, thereby creating the ideal conditions for those very experiences, which thrive in conditions of suspicion and panic.

The consciousness level of To Threaten easily collapses into the consciousness level of To Force, as anyone can tell you who has witnessed a panicked crowd erupt into violence. Groups operating on the level of To Threaten are easily controlled by politicians and religious tyrants, so keeping a population afraid is a popular technique employed by Force-level rulers throughout history.

The other side of To Threaten is To Be Threatened. Persons who have suffered from To Be Threatened consciousness for long periods frequently have blocks to their spleen chakras, the energy centers around the mid-abdomen associated with evaluation, trust, and analytical ability.  When I allow my reason and intuition to be clouded by brain chemicals urging me to fight or flee, I cannot attain the objectivity to properly assess my situation. In such cases I am more likely to become a victim.

NEXT: To Blame.

The 10 Levels of Consciousness: An Introduction

Way back in 1987, my partner Stuart, in deep trance channeling as “Alexandra,” revealed that there were many levels of consciousness available to human civilizations. According to Alexandra, the progress of history has been a progress of human consciousness from the least creative level of consciousness, To Control Absolutely, to the most creative level of consciousness, To Know That I Already Have.

In this view, each sociopolitical entity—nation, country, ethnic group, city, organization, family—tends to operate on one of the levels of consciousness. According to Alexandra and my own information source, these levels of consciousness are (listed from least creative to most creative):

    1. To Control Absolutely
    2. To Force
    3. To Threaten
    4. To Blame
    5. To Accept
    6. To Know the Physical Reasons Why
    7. To Know the Spiritual Reasons Why
    8. To Give
    9. To Love Unconditionally
    10. To Know That I Already Have

According to Alexandra, the consciousness level “To Control Absolutely” has, by and large, passed out of history as a means for civilizations to create experience for themselves, although individual nations or groups may still be experimenting with this consciousness level. Generally speaking, Alexandra said, modern civilization operates more or less on the level number 2, “To Force,” both in its attitudes towards Nature and its attitudes towards its citizenry (though again, some groups behave in a more enlightened manner).

Alexandra predicted that, as the Age of Aquarius dawned and progressed, “To Force” would generally pass out of use as a group consciousness tool, and “To Threaten” would take its place, possibly as civilization came to fear the death-dealing weaponry and industrial processes it has developed for dealing with undesired groups and “undeveloped” Nature.

Individual human beings, however, can operate on any level of consciousness, or go back and forth among levels many times during the day, though even then individuals tend to gravitate towards one level of consciousness in particular as their favorite or familiar level.

In the next few blogs I will be describing the ten levels of consciousness both as they relate to societies and as they relate to individuals, and give some ideas on how you can raise your consciousness level if you find yourself stuck on a level that is not as creative as you require.
