A Message From “The Family”: Seasons of the Soul

There are many seasons in the soul. Some are fresh and green; others, old and brittle; others, a rampage of hungers and searches for satiation. When one is caught up in a wash of internal seasonal weather, one can feel cast adrift, out of control, spinning into unknown waters.

At such times, Knowers—those for whom reality is best perceived [and dealt with] via spiritual, religious, intellectual, or scientific practices—often seek to stand back from their [emotional] experiences, observing them [from a distance], whether in meditation or scientific study. Other Knowers may seek to avoid getting in touch with their internal experiences [at all], sometimes even going so far as to insist that humans have no internal consciousness; that consciousness is an illusion manufactured by the chemical factory of the brain.

Consciousness deniers frequently seek solace in their intellectual constructs, which reduce the world to biological process, and treat emotions as no more meaningful than sparks emerging from a car battery, mechanical problems that distract from the broad tasks of pattern assessment and phenomena analysis.

There are Doers, [those for whom reality is best perceived as a series of practical problems to be solved or tasks to be accomplished], who also treat internal experience as unworthy of contemplation, unless they can see its practical applications for survival, task completion, and biological needs gratification. “Of what use is a feeling unless it triggers action of some kind?” these Doers may think. So for them, Love is not real  unless it is expressed in giving another objects of value, enjoyable shared [physical] experiences sexual and otherwise, and enhancement of physical and economic stability and power.

For Feelers, reality is what is experienced internally, and Love is an internal sensation of longing, belonging, and consolation. What to Knowers is a pattern of understanding and identification with the Other, and to Doers is a relationship useful for creating mutual external experience, to Feelers [is what fills the emptiness they feel at their core].

A Message From “The Family”: On Ghosts, Aliens, Spirit Guides and Hauntings, Part 2: Spirits of Action, Support, and Communion

Hubble_snow_angelNothing matters to humans but life and death. We are speaking of physical life and physical death. Mister Rand has struggled all his life with terror of death, ever since early childhood, when he encountered the shredded corpses of his pet rabbits strewn across the lawn of his childhood home. Nothing is more terrifying to him, and to many humans, than the thought of dying alone and unloved, under painful and lonesome circumstances.

He is a Pisces, and prone to such extremes of thought. In response to his fears we say, “You are safe. Everyone is safe. At root, Love is unconquerable, immutable, the force that binds all the realities together in a whirling balance of constant expansion. Yet no matter how many changes develop in physical reality, including changes that bring unimaginable pain to those involved in them, there are agents of Love waiting to bring consolation to the sufferer.”

And so Mister Rand need not fear a lonely death. As he has been present at the deaths of his beloved dogs, so will his spiritual guides attend his transformation back into his truest Self.

We continue to describe  some of these spiritual agents or helpers by examin[ing] Spirits of Action, Support, and Communion.

Spirits of Action: Spirits of Action are spirit helpers called in to assist a human with decisions, transitions, and exertion[s]. Like the angels who came in disguise to the door of Lot in the Bible, so these beings can take the forms of humans. So it is true what the Bible says when it asserts, “We entertain angels unawares.” Some such spirits temporarily inhabit the energy fields of living humans, who agree to speak and act to help the human in need. Whenever a person requires events to take a specific turn, angels of action appear to encourage that person to take the necessary action to bring the desired result about. Such spirits of action can take the form of books, or words spoken by teachers, or therapists, or twelve step individuals, or simply make themselves felt as powerful urges to do this or to do that.

Spirits of Support help individuals connect to their “tribe,” that is, their circle of support systems who are energetically and emotionally and intellectually and evaluatively able to help that individual find resources for achieving his or her goals in physical reality. The Greek god Eros, or Cupid in Roman myth, was a depiction of just such a spirit; but Cupid is not simply an agent to bring lovers together. He is also an agent for bringing “likers” together—platonic soulmates, if you will. For the divine heart of love can take many different forms within the context of physical experience. Spirits of support can also assist humans in getting practical needs met such as finding a new home, or connecting to a new teacher, or finding the counseling support or spiritual support that person requires at this particular time in his or her life.

There is truth to the New Testament statement attributed to Jesu, and that is, “You ask not and therefore you have not;” and in Jesu’s statement, “Ask and keep on asking and you shall receive; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened; seek and keep on seeking and [you shall] find.” For the verbs used in these statements [as they appear in the King James Bible] are not translated correctly for English. In the ancient common [koiné] Greek of Jesu’s day, the verb can take not only a simple present form—I am seeking or I seek—but it can also take what is called by grammarians a continuing present form: I am [continually] seeking. And this is an important difference.

Why does Spirit require one to keep on seeking? Is that because Spirit has limited resources and does not wish to give us help unless we beg for it? We do not see things this way. One must keep on asking, seeking, and knocking in order to overcome inner resistance to receiving what [we]claim [we] desire (but may not deep down actually desire). So persistence in asking, seeking, and knocking puts out into the multiverse a strong probability line attraction—as long as the individual seeking, asking, and knocking is not afraid of the consequences of getting what she or he says she or he wants.

Spirits of Communion are spirits summoned with messages from the Greater Self to the physicalized self; or, if you prefer in your symbol system, messages from your inner self to your conscious self. These messages are not simply information, however. They are experiences of communion with the Divine Heart of Love, and they do not come at a summons or calling. They well up within the seeker as the result of the seeker staying in the heart center and practising acceptance with intent to learn. Such spirits can also come in dreams of a loved one consoling the dreamer, or as passages in a religious text which “jump out at you” as people say. Mister Rand has even experienced such communion while getting out of his seat in a 12 step meeting in a state of complaint over not  understanding or feeling the presence of a Grater or Higher Self. Once such a message, which is a complete meme that is not easily expressed in linear terms, is felt by the individual, it is almost never forgotten, even if the bliss the spirit of communion conveys fades from the emotional body.

A Message From “The Family”: On Hope

ImageWhen a child is born into physical reality, from a psychological perspective it has no hope or despair, for it is aware only of the present moment and the universe of itself.  When a child “hopes for” something, it is not hope that one speaks of, but desire: craving, wish, longing, which all humans possess from inception. If it were not so–if the human infant did not feel and communicate its cravings–it might well die before its caregivers, or those around it, noticed it needed anything. The same is true of dogs and cats and other domestic animals. At birth they live in the present, and their internal lives are characterized by desire: for the warmth of the body of the caregiver; for the milk the caregiver provides, or other sustenance; and for the chance to exercise, play, and learn from their environment and peers.

Hope and despair become conscious emotions or experiences when the child reaches the age when its brain is sufficiently developed for it to be aware of the passage of time, and when it is able to distinguish between self and others. This may take place [by] the age of 8 in many cases. This is why little children were able to play even in concentration camps. Fatigue, exhaustion, and terror were all available to them, but not despair as such, although they could become afraid and depressed at the despair of the adults around them.

We mention these things because to understand hope one must understand  that hope, like despair, arise when one achieves the maturity to sense boundaries to gratification and also the possibility of a positive or negative outcome in time. God, for instance, does not hope, because God is outside of time, and is complete in Itself, of Whom It considers you a particle. God knows that Love is Its nature in all parts of Itself, including you; and that on the divine level,  Love is never defeated or denied. Therefore It need have no anxiety about the future or regret about the past. Amor vincit omnia: love conquers all resistance eventually. Eventually, everyone who has turned its back upon Love will be wooed back into Its arms (we speak figuratively of course).

What, then, is hope, and how does one attain and maintain an attitude of hope when one is beleaguered by unpleasant or discouraging circumstances?

On the Wheel of Creation, Mr Rand and Mr Alex’s template for manifestation in physical reality, hope is allied with belief. To increase belief (in positive outcome, in the eventual victory of Love over all resistance to It) one must look across the center of the Wheel, across the hub called Harmony of Desire, to the spoke opposite that of belief: the support spoke. Put simply, if you lack hope, it is because you lack a sense of support for your longed for condition or goal. To increase hope, therefore, it is necessary to increase one’s sense of support.

How does one do this, particularly when one is discouraged or depressed? . . . By seeking out those who share similar beliefs to your own: similar values, similar cultural backgrounds, similar mindsets, similar thought processes, similar interests and experiences. As support grows, so does belief that positive outcome is possible.

A basic principle in physical reality is that it is extremely difficult to find hope without interaction with other sentient beings. In short, it is very very difficult to climb out of despair alone, or in isolation (though not impossible if one has already developed a rich sense of Divine Love and a habit for dialoguing with It). Twelve Step recovery programs work in part because they offer addicted individuals the hope that, if they work the introspective and self-revelatory meditative exercises expressed in the Twelve Steps, and find a sponsor and attend regular meetings with others like themselves, they will find relief from addiction. For it is a fact that despair can become an addiction: a habituated pattern of emotional response to life that is driven not necessarily by present difficulties, dramatic though they may be, but by the brain having become so drenched in force, threat, and blame in the past that it cannot right the chemical imbalances created by such drenching.

WheelofCreationTo lift one’s brain out of despair-drenching, one must begin by accepting that one is trapped in despair with a desire to learn from the experience. Then one must begin asking questions: How did I get into my present situation? What actions or inactions did I perform, and what strategies did I use, to create or fall prey to my present difficulties? By coming to grips with the physical and psychological processes that led to the choices that have led to one’s force-threat-blame experiences, one then must begin inquiring into whether there are deeper forces at work—spiritual, intellectual, or evaluative patterns that are feeding into one’s despair. If one asks and keeps on asking for enlightenment on this issue, one will certainly be rewarded with an answer or answers. And the answer or answers discovered will contain within them clues as to how one may escape from, or work with, the present difficulty that has led one to give up hope.

When light begins to dawn, and one begins to see the reasons physical and spiritual behind one’s difficulties, one must then commit oneself to finding the path of Love through one’s difficulties. How can I learn to love myself given the choices I have made? How can I learn to love my enemies to the extent to which they will allow and without violating myself in the process? Taking these questions to one’s Greater Self, and to one’s support systems (friends, family, doctors, counselors, teachers and so forth), one will eventually come up with a plan of action the sole purpose of which is to find the most direct route to giving myself the solace, information, help and resources [I need] to change [my] difficult circumstance into one that is more life-affirming. For some persons (and some circumstances), science yields clues to the most direct route to harmony. For others, philosophy or religion; and for still others, the taking of practical physical action to find support for the next step in one’s strategy for self-rescue; or a combination of the utilizations of all these tools.

To Give

homelessmenhuggingI began this thread by reviewing the least creative levels of consciousness, those levels that limit most the creative expression of consciousness in physical reality. These consciousness levels I call:

  • To Control and To Be Controlled Absolutely
  • To Force and To Be Forced
  • To Threaten and To Be Threatened  
  • To Blame and To Be Blamed Undeservedly 

To raise myself from these levels of consciousness, all I need do is say, “Yes,” to the reality of my suffering and be willing to learn from my experience. This immediately brings me to the more creative level of consciousness that I call:

  • To Accept With Intent to Learn

Next I needed to understand how my situation came about, including any forces involved in its creation and maintenance. To accomplish this understanding, I found I needed to ask questions: first, questions designed to uncover the physical and psychological processes involved in my suffering; and second, if I required further understanding, questions designed to uncover the broader spiritual, theoretical, or historical processes involved in my suffering. Asking these questions raised me to the next most creative levels of consciousness, levels that I call:

  • To Understand Physically
  • To Understand Spiritually

Now I find myself at the next most creative level of consciousness, the level of consciousness I call:

  • To Give

To Give is a dynamic level of consciousness, one that involves willingness to take any and all nonabusive steps necessary To Give myself the physical, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual resources required for healing the situation that is causing my suffering. Finding such resources almost always involves asking others for help. This can be very hard to do, particularly if I am ashamed of the part I may have played in bringing my situation about or permitting it to come about. Such shame arises from the consciousness level of To Blame. And we have seen already that in order to raise myself from my the consciousness level of To Blame I must accept that I feel this way and be willing to learn from it. This raises me from the consciousness level of To Blame to the level I call To Accept With Intent to Learn, which in turn opens my mind To Understand Physically and Spiritually the dynamics of my shame and readies me To Give myself the help I need to heal my situation.

The wonderful thing is that, once I get into the habit of taking the action to give myself the help I need to relieve my suffering, that attitude of To Give overflows to others. I find an inner strength welling up in me, a feeling of sureness, dignity, and rightness that others see and wish to emulate. Giving from an overflow of enjoyed resources is a very different experience from the kind of codependent giving that many of us mistake for noble spirituality. It raises one immediately to the level of consciousness that I call To Love.

Don’t misunderstand me here: sacrifice has its place in spiritual evolution. But sacrifice as it is commonly practiced by religious ascetics and martyrs often arises from the consciousness level of To Force, and does not, in the end, succeed in healing the endless power struggle that characterizes so much of civilization. The Wheel of Creation: Communication

ImageThe sixth spoke of the Wheel of Creation I call communication. In the Wheel diagram it lies directly opposite the hub from the passion spoke, and this is no accident. When enthusiasm for a project flags, one of the best ways to revive that enthusiasm is to talk about it to someone supportive who shares similar enthusiasms.

Communication also factors into making a dream come true because, since dreams are realized via interdependence rather than independence, I must be able to share my ideal vision with others in order to find resources to help me take action on my dream realization strategies. How I communicate my vision—through words, spoken or written, through images, through groups, through ads, through talks, workshops, or through one-on-one confabs—is important, too. Some visions are suitable for mass marketing and others aren’t. Talking to others who have  realized dreams similar to my own can give me clues to the best way to build a bridge between my heart’s desires and those who can help me fulfill them.

Also bear in mind that some people are doers, some are feelers, and some are primarily knowers. Doers tend to respond to concrete descriptions and bottom line facts: who, what, where, how much, and what’s in it for me? Feelers tend to respond to personal contact, anecdote, and individual reaching-out. Knowers tend to respond to the big picture, subtlety, nuance, and elegantly constructed, patterned presentations.

A final aspect of the communication spoke is the need for me to keep up a running dialogue throughout the dream-manifestation process with my Greater Self. If you are an atheist materialist, you may think of your Greater Self as your rational adult self. If you are religious, you may think of your Greater Self as God, your oversoul, or a spiritual figure for whom you feel a connection. Ask for your Greater Self to send you serendipitous opportunities to clarify your passion, firm your beliefs, refine your strategies, take more efficient action, and find deeper sources of support. Then let go of the need to control exactly how, when, where, and from what direction these opportunities arise. Try it! It works!

The Wheel of Creation: Action

ImageExternal action is necessary to make my dreams come true. That is, I must take tangible steps to create the physical networks, resources, and structure sufficient to support my dream when I download it from the dream-state into physical reality.

So far, in the first four blogs on the Wheel of Creation, we have dealt with largely internal action steps: passion (recognizing what I truly want), belief (expanding my value and cognitive understanding sufficiently to permit my dream to become a reality), and strategy (coming up with a mental plan for connecting to the resources necessary to download my dream into spacetime). Now we face the task of taking action to actually apply our strategy on a day to day basis until our dream is realized and our passion is satisfied.

Some issues to examine when considering this step:

  1. What specific act can I accomplish today, just as I am, with all my present imperfect resources, strengths, and skills, to get one step closer to making my dream a reality?
  2. If I feel overwhelmed by the idea of taking action, my strategy may be an idealized one that does not begin with where I really am. I may need to go back and refine my strategy so that each step is doable (with help).
  3. If I keep not taking action on a well thought out strategy, it may be that my vision of what I truly want to create is not sufficiently clear, or that its manifestation appears to threaten something I secretly want more. I may need to go back and do the Ruling Passion Exercise to get in touch with what I truly want, not what I think I should want.
  4. Fear can block me from taking action. If I believe that I will be punished for being successful I will tend to drag my heels at applying my strategy. So I must rework my strategy to include steps for acknowledging and working with such fears when they arise.

As a general principle, I tell my clients not to let three days go by without taking a step to get closer to realizing a specific dream. But no matter how hard I work to reach such a goal, I will not be able to do so without support.

The Wheel of Creation

My trance subpersona, “The Family,” cites The Wheel of Creation (originally channeled by my late partner Stuart Lucker) as a graphic, easy-to-follow, practical format for creating desired experience in Physical Reality. The Wheel is composed of six spokes and a hub, the principles, interrelationships, and criteria of all of which must be satisfied for a given dream to manifest. The spokes at the bottom of the Wheel as drawn represent the daily inner, emotional and mental work that must be done to make a given dream come true. These inward-focused spokes are Passion, Belief, and Strategy. The spokes at the top of the Wheel as drawn represent the daily outer, physical work that must be done to make a given dream come true. These outward-focused spokes are Action, Support, and Communication.

The hub at the center of the Wheel represents overall conditions that must be met for the inward- and outward-focused work to be truly effective. This hub bears two titles: Harmony of Desire and Clarity of Vision.

Many of my clients over the years have found the Wheel a useful tool for project planning and problem-solving, because it can be adapted to any situation. You can use the Wheel to find a job, plan a garden, write a novel, heal a wounded relationship, earn a degree, organize a family reunion, plot a course of addiction recovery, run a business, explore spirituality, and orchestrate a political action movement. You can also use the Wheel to figure out why projects, businesses, relationships, and other endeavors go wrong, or fail to satisfy when they go right. When I try my damnedest to achieve some particular goal, and fall short of doing so, it’s usually because I’ve failed to take into account one or more of the Wheel’s principles.

PRINCIPLE #1: PASSION
According to one view, everything exists because the Divine Heart of Love has a great passion to see Its uniqueness mirrored in an explosion of potentialities. You, I, and everything in this universe continually emerge from Love’s passionate dream of Itself; and that is why Passion is the bottom lefthand spoke on the Wheel of Creation.
In ordinary speech, “passion” is usually employed to mean strong feeling or desire. Bernard de Fontenelle wrote, “The passions in [people] are the winds necessary to put everything in motion” (Dialogues des morts, I, 1683), and it is true that, assuming all the principles of the Wheel are kept in balance, the more strongly one yearns to manifest a certain experience, the more likely one will do the hard work necessary to bring it to birth. But I do not use “passion” here simply as a synonym for “enthusiasm.” Emotions come and go, and the dreamer who depends upon feelings alone to carry him or her over the obstacles often encountered in the course of dream-manifestation will fail to stay the course. The kind of passion that brings new worlds into being is that intense inward focus that springs from complete inner investment in the project at hand. That is what I mean by the “passion” of the Passion Spoke.

The scientist who labors twenty-five years to find a cure for a fatal disease; the struggling artist who perseveres despite the mockery or indifference of critics; the single parent working two jobs to put children through college; the monastic devout who gets up to pray night after night, year after year — each is driven by complete commitment to seeing his or her dream realized, whether it be a dream of healing, of beauty, of love, or of divine union.
But commitment alone is not enough to make a dream come true… (NEXT: Belief)
