Spoiler Alert: Last night, on Netflix, I watched a British film called “Hippopotamus”. The main character and narrator is a late middle aged British critic whose sardonic skepticism is equaled only by his sense of personal failure and self-loathing. In the film, he is called to an aristocratic country home to investigate rumors that a younger son there—the critic’s godson—has developed supernatural healing abilities. A man, a horse, and several women have been reported as cured of life-threatening illnesses when the boy laid hands upon them.
“Hippopotamus” is well scripted and well acted. The main character’s acerbic wit both appeals and appalls. But the ending is predictable. The critic—a former poet plagued with writer’s block for decades—unmasks the “healings” as a con on the part of the boy: one of the women dies, and the others’ symptoms return, except for the horse’s, who turns out to have been suffering from nothing worse than a hangover brought on by lapping up an alcoholic beverage accidentally dumped into its water bucket by the critic.
There is a happy ending of sorts: the boy admits to the con; is reconciled with his father, whom the con had been designed to impress; the critic’s writer’s block dissolves; and he starts making poems again. But the underlying assumptions of the film are what I’ve come to expect from modern secular media: there is no God; “miracles” are simply chance occurrences explicable by natural law; and anyone who believes in God, the supernatural, faith, or life after death is a self-deluded lamebrain.
True confession time: The movie depressed me. Against all experience and true expectation, I had deep down hoped that the main character would at least have been left with some doubts about the certitude of his materialism. When the hope was dashed, my ancient doubts concerning the true nature of my own mystical and psychic experiences rose up chattering. This is nothing new—my mind has always been a house divided, rationalist on one side, mystic on the other—and when such dark moods descend on me, I feel like a charlatan who has wasted his life living in a dream world.
Oddly enough, when I go into trance, or throw the cards for a client, or am in the presence of others who have had mystical experiences, my doubts recede, and the quiet joy of knowing that Divine Love is real, and that we are all, ultimately, safe, returns. But when I am alone in my flat, at night, it is more difficult to recapture that startling sense of peace I experience in the day.
This dualism is in part inherited: My father was an agnostic and purported rationalist; my mother, a high church Episcopalian who taught me from an early age “If I should die before I wake, I pray my Lord my soul to take.” I always felt torn between them, to the point where, as a child, I taught myself to sleep on my back rather than on my left or right side, because Daddy slept on the left side of the bed he shared with Mommy, and Mommy slept on the right side, and I felt if I chose right or left I would be siding with one parent against the other.
Tonight, as I lay in bed suffocating beneath the dread that the materialists are right, and that my mystic experiences are nothing more than brain farts, I could understand how some people believe in demon oppression or soulsucking negative thoughtform attacks—because I felt attacked, not by demons, but by the overwhelmingly pessimistic materialism of modern secular intellectual culture. And the thought came to me: You don’t have to give in to these doubts. You have a choice, based upon your experience, to believe in spirit guides, nature spirits, ghosts, reincarnation, soul travel, ESP, Tarot, channeling, and other manifestations of nonlinear consciousness, or not to believe in them. Which choice makes your life run more smoothly while not violating either your reason or your intuition? Choose now.
My lifelong difficulty reconciling my father’s agnosticism with my mother’s emotional religiosity was predicted, many years ago, when I was a sophomore at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. I developed a crush on a bisexual upperclassman who dabbled in the occult, inspired by the characters in John Fowles’ The Magus. One day, while in a pot-fueled trance, he predicted that I would spend my life standing on the crossroads showing the way for others to follow, while never taking that path myself.
Tonight I say: I choose to believe that life is more than a molecular dance, wondrous though that dance may be. Tonight I choose to believe that Spirit is real, and that my experiences of It are glimpses of a truth underlying, upholding, and surrounding the truths of physical reality. To put it another way, words deliberately chosen to irritate the the sophisticated atheist who lives inside me: tonight I choose to believe in fairies. And if you choose to believe in them, too? Why, do what Peter Pan invited us to do when Tinker Bell lay at death’s door. If you believe in fairies, clap your hands. •
There is a story running about in physical reality that all one has to do in order to be happy forever is to locate, connect with verbally, and interact nurturingly with another human being who embodies every aspect of spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and moral value which the seeker feels is missing from him- or herself.
(For the sake of this blog post) we shall call the ideal beloved ‘the Cheese’, and the one seeking the beloved ‘the Mouse’.
Mister Rand is appalled by this analogy. “We are speaking of an intimate human relationship here,” he objects, “not a relationship of predator and prey!” To which we reply, “You could have fooled us.” [<- jest] For in looking over Mister Rand’s shoulder, as it were, while he is exploring different online dating sites for possible suitable partners, we are struck by the preponderance of attribute-lists and photographs presenting the seeker as not so much a person as a tangle of goods dangling in the shop window of the heart. “Purchase me!” cries the tangle of dangling goods. “Purchase me!” But how can one poor tangle of goods hope to attracts purchasers when there are so many other dangling tangles for the tangle-seeker to choose from?
“Ah!” exclaims Mister Rand. “That is where the concept of ‘soul mate’ comes in! If It Is Meant To Be, I shall meet my perfect mate if I simply stay open to the blessings of love.” The difficulty, as we see it, with this concept is multi-fold. Firstly, we see humans as expanding experiential consciousness constructs/vectors, always expanding experience of the One during their time in physical reality. To say that Mister Rand has a “perfect” mate suggests that at some point in the expansion experience one reaches a state of completion. But we do not see this as the case.
Secondly, we do not see Mister Rand as requiring a savior, because we do not see Mister Rand as, ultimately, in peril. In his vision of November 2013, when his earthly consciousness intersected with the part of him that dwells on the Plane of Light and Sound, Mister Rand temporarily awoke from the dream of spacetime and found himself Home in the deepest sense of the word. He found himself in a “place” so safe that he knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that nothing whatsoever could take from him anything essential to his being and becoming. He experienced reality as a plane of utter Love, aware of him down to the smallest flap of skin on his tricep area, utterly accepting of him, utterly supportive of him, utterly lacking in the slightest need to change, chastise, or vilify him in any way. And It could take this attitude towards Mister Rand because It was complete in Itself, and therefore free to love without stint or condition, requiring from him in return no praise, no worship, nor even thanks.
For Mister Rand, the most striking factor of this experience was the sense of its ordinariness. It felt completely familiar to him, this place of quiet, total, acceptance and support—so familiar that he could not understand how he could possibly have forgotten that this ultimately was Reality. [To mistake] the constantly changing subreality of spacetime [for] core reality felt absurd to Mister Rand.
So to Mister Rand, whom we love, we say, “By all means hang up on the Internet whatever dangling bits you feel proud of and happy with. But do not, we beg of you, seek one who will complete you. You are already complete, and so is he. Seek one who can recognize your beauty and celebrate it, even as you recognize his beauty and celebrate it. For of this is the Kingdom of Heaven. •

When Mister Rand first entered physical reality in zygote form in the womb of his present incarnation’s mother, he … brought with him into physical reality many experiences of standards fallen short, and his grief and pain over these actions (perceived by him as “failures”) were deeply entrenched in brain and body, so that he literally could not imagine a reality where the concepts of Good and Evil, Beautiful and Ugly, Friend and Enemy, Wanderer and Destination, Beginning and Ending did not hold universal meaning throughout all realities.
Big and small, short and tall, victor/victim, do you not see that these dualities are only meaningful in Thought Reality? In the other levels of Reality, such as the Physical Planning State, the Dream State, the Nonphysical Planning State, the Plane of Light and Sound, and ultimately, the Plane of the Great Self, dualities slip away and are readily recognized as woefully inadequate to describe the enormous complexities of enfleshment.
But how can this be? asks Mister Rand. In physical reality, pain is real. Cruelty is real. Evil is real. How can you treat these intense negative experiences as neither good nor bad? Or as illusory? They are not illusory. They really hurt. How could a loving God create a universe where such pain can exist? Millions of children all over the world dying of starvation. Justice is one of the faces of the Divine, too. Are you saying that “justice” and “injustice” are meaningless concepts in the quote Higher Realms unquote?
We did not say that these things are illusory. We said simply that they have a reality only in Thought Reality, that reality connected to all minds past, present, and future by your reckoning. As for a loving God creating a universe in which suffering is not only possible but certain, given circumstances, some of your teachers [posit] that God has evolved over the eons of earthly existence, expanding through the levels of consciousness from Force, Threat, and Blame (all the vengeful deities of ancient times) to Acceptance With Intent To Learn; Giving; Loving; and Knowing … One’s true, complete, and immutable nature.
Another way of looking at these matters: that God, having evolved over the billennia into the most expanded consciousness, recognizes that It is not bound by space and time. And so Its expanded awareness is free to proliferate up and down the time stream, throughout all probable universes, … [expressing] Itself throughout time and space as though It had always been free to do so. In this way, Divine Love obtains access to all of reality and is free to seek to integrate Its mercies with the entire timestream from the very beginning to the very end (if “beginning” and “end” are words of meaningfulness in this context).
Mister Rand says, This is very complicated. Are you saying that God was once a brute, but having evolved into pure Love, is now rewriting the history of Itself so as to appear always to have been pure Love? We are not saying that deception is involved here. We are positing that the pain and travail available in Thought Reality is a remnant of a Maker less aware of the suffering of Its creation than It later became. And now that Maker, unable to remake what already is, is seeking to bring healing to all of history in all its permutations through the expanding consciousnesses of Its “little” selves, i.e., the sentient creatures sprung from Its womb who are capable of moral choice and compassionate action.
And so It introduces agents of healing and change into the timestreams, “bodhisattvas” if you will, who emerge, have emerged, and will always emerge at various points in history to bring integration of the divine love-nature into Thought Reality and spacetime experience.
Mister Rand asks, So you are saying that some of us are time travelers sent by All-That-Is into physical reality and Thought Reality to introduce ripples of Love and Light into various periods of history? To which we reply, “That is correct.”

Ever since Donald Trump was installed as President of the United States, I’ve had a hard time sitting down at the computer and trance-writing “Life On the Borderlands”. To be frank, given the enormity of the injustices being perpetrated in this country and around the world, I’ve come to feel that this blog is pretty irrelevant.
It’s not that “The Family” and I haven’t been able to help anybody. A fair number of you have told me you’ve felt inspired, consoled, and expanded by some of the words that have appeared here. It’s just that I feel the forces of darkness pushing, pushing, pushing to remake the USA into Putin’s Russia, and it’s difficult for me to believe that anything “The Family” and I say can make the slightest contribution toward staving off the final outcome.
No sooner do I voice this on my computer screen, than from deep within me a contrary set of memes wells up, challenging my pessimism. I am reminded of the I Ching ideogram often called in English “The Healing Power of the Small”: if this blog helps even one person, isn’t it worth doing? And I receive the gentle suggestion that perhaps part of my discouragement is rooted in noble hopes for the salvation of the world but in the fact that I feel, after years of striving, I have not “made something of myself”—i.e., earned enough money, fame, recognition, weight loss, and status in the “real” world to win the respect of my (mostly long dead) childhood critics and detractors.
In the late fall of 2013, I was leading a group heart chakra meditation when I dropped into a spontaneous and entirely unexpected experience of complete and utter safety. It was like waking from a rather troublesome dream, and realizing with a start of relief that what I had thought was real life—a world of force, threat, blame, and shame—was not the ultimate reality at all. The ultimate reality was that deep down in the core of myself I am, and always will be, safe. And the Love that pervades deep reality needs no praise, no worship, no gratitude, nothing at all, for It is complete in Itself, and therefore free to love without question everything in me and my reality that I call “good,” and everything in me and my reality that I call “bad.”
I wish to stress that this vision felt, when I was in it, entirely ordinary, entirely undramatic, and entirely familiar. But coming out of it, I realized that for the first time in my life I felt truly, deeply fed. And in the days that followed, my ambitions, jealousies, and pessimism were lifted from me, because I had everything I would ever need. Did this sense of completeness last? No. In time it faded, crowded out by my body’s cravings for food, touch, and safety. But the memory of it lingers, and when I share that memory with you, I feel hopeful again.
The healing power of the small. Take heart, my friends. The best is yet to come. •

Mister Rand has given us leave to write about anything we wish, which means we have the task of writing about what he most wishes to hear, since “we” as such do not exist. He has struggled in recent months with a disorientation born of the shock of the Trump person being elected as President of the United States of America. This disorientation, as we see it, is threefold: first, a disorientation of context. The context in which Mister Rand has lived much of his life has been one of the United States being at root a well-meaning, generous, adaptive and accepting country, one in which differences are at worst tolerated, at best embraced wholeheartedly.
That this United States has always existed more in intention than in reality does not lessen the impact or importance of this concept held by Mister Rand. He has always felt himself embedded in an America that was, at root, benevolent. To discover that beneath the surface of the mass consciousness there has always seethed a whirlwind of blame, judgmentalism, intolerance, sexism, and social class division has shocked Mister Rand’s idealism into stunned silence.
Mister Rand’s disorientation is also a disorientation of safety. With the ascendancy of President Trump has, for Mister Rand, come an escalating sense of danger: a keen awareness of the unpredictable nature of physical reality, particularly as regards marginalized populations—gender nonconformists, artists/writers, the poor, the disabled, and those whose skin color does not conform to the standard American norm of heterosexual male Caucasianhood. Mister Rand is keenly aware now, in a way he has not been aware previously, that there are those who would wish him dead simply because he is gay, spiritualist, and possessed of Jewish ancestry.
Mister Rand’s third disorientation is one of purpose. The story Mister Rand has put faith in for many years is that each individual in physical reality is incarnated for a specific reasons or reasons: experiences [that] he or she needs for soul-growth; services that he or she has been called upon to provide to others; and individuals with whom he or she has agreed to collaborate in order to construct and create tools, templates, and systems reflective of the transcendent beauty of the human soul.
Now Mister Rand is uncertain of these matters. Chaos has appeared to ascend in power over him and others, and all bets, as it were, seem off. From our viewpoint, however, nothing has changed in physical reality at all. That is, the ascendancy of President Trump and his followers we see as part of a normal cycle of moral flux, a moral flux that has always existed just out of sight, or mostly just out of sight, beneath the mask of U.S. civil responsibility and ethics. Mister Rand is realizing that his center—the core beliefs around which he has built his worldview—is not one supported by current events. So he is tempted to jettison his core beliefs in the basic goodness of people and the benevolent oversight of Divine Love as idealistic and self-delusional.
To this we say, truth is truth whether or not it is believed by the mass consciousness, and truth cannot be denied forever. To paraphrase a 19th Century Christian writer, God is Love in all parts of Itself, and thinks nothing of Itself, but only of Its creation and how It can win creation back into Its loving embrace. And it takes a special kind of faith and courage to hold fast to this truth in the face of force, threat, and blame as manifested in the surrounding culture.
So to Mister Rand we say, Fear not, neither be dismayed; the vision you experienced in 2013 of the unshakeable, unlosable Love at the center of everything is still true. Open yourself up today to be a channel of that love to those around you, and you will experience small miracles of hope even in the face of death. And we thank you for sharing.

Mister Rand has asked us to share our perceptions of the power of belief to tweak probability lines and render some outcomes more probable than they might have been without the actions of belief upon them. Belief—which can be described, if not precisely defined, as [involving] emotional and intellectual investment in a specific [concept], person, cause, or positive [goal]—is often used interchangeably with the words “faith” and “trust”. As we see things, however, belief is closer in meaning to a way of seeing the world that shapes expectations and provides a framework within which the believer interprets everything that happens.
There are some people, for example, who believe that if they ask their deity to provide them with a convenient parking place in a crowded or busy lot, that parking space will materialize almost at once. This belief is buttressed by those times when indeed a parking space does materialize within several minutes of the prayer. Those times when the parking space does not materialize are then interpreted according to the framework of the belief. So if the driver’s belief includes the belief that their God rewards them when they do something good and chastises them when they fail to do something good, the driver may conclude that the parking space did not materialize at once because the driver had done something to piss God off.
Or if the driver’s belief … includes the notion that their God is unconditionally loving, the driver can assume that, with a finite number of convenient parkings spaces available at any given moment, their God had denied our driver the parking space because God know that another driver… had a deeper and greater need for … the gift of the parking spot. Because the God knows the big picture, and knows that, in the most probable future available, if our second driver [had been] denied the parking spot [prayed for by] our first driver, a probability line would have come into being that, down the road a ways, might bring the second driver into disaster. In this way the first driver, who believes in an unconditionally loving deity, can console him- or herself that somehow the greater good was served by the desired parking spot going to somebody else.
Mister Rand asks, “Can belief in a desired outcome draw to the believer a future in which that desired outcome is more probable? Or does a person’s beliefs have no power to affect probability lines unless the believer takes practical steps to make the desired future take place?” Mister Rand [refers to] the movie “The Secret”, which claims that if one believes strongly and vividly enough in a future where one’s deepest desires are satisfied, then that future is assuredly going to happen just as one hoped it would. Desire a bicycle? Pretend you already have it, [says “The Secret”]. Imagine as vividly as you can how the bicycle looks, how it feels under the hand, and how it makes you feel riding it. Do this long enough, and strongly enough, says “The Secret”, and the bicycle will come to you—possibly from an unexpected direction and with no further efforts on your part. “Does this visualization/manifestation technique really work?” asks Mister Rand.
Our answer to this is, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. But one can increase the likelihood of that bicycle materializing by bringing in at least three other persons who share one’s belief in “The Secret” technique. All four believers sitting together, praying for the same outcome or visualizing the same good fortune, often subtly tweaks a probability line so that the desired outcome does takes place.
According to our observations in the life of Mister Rand and the lives of those he has encountered, the more persons believe in a desired outcome, the more likely it will materialize, as long as certain conditions are met (see below).
If one brings in a faith circle to assist in the manifestation process, and still the desired outcome does not materialize, it may be because
- materializing the desired outcome might prove harmful to the believer or the greater good;
- there are additional actions the believer should take in order to position him- or herself to receive the desired outcome, actions which the believer might be reluctant to take because of fear, laziness, or pride;
- deep down the believer believes that he or she does not deserve to experience the desired outcome, and so unconsciously is blocking its manifestation;
- there is another outcome which the believer desires as much or more than the outcome the faith circle is attempting to materialize, and the materialization of one outcome would cancel out the likelihood of the other materializing;
- what the believer wants would, if manifested, violate the laws of spacetime;
- the mass consciousness of the faith group, family, or society in which the believer is embedded is bent on materializing a future incompatible with the outcome the believer desires;
- or a combination of the above factors.
Whatever the outcome, one can turn over the matter to Divine Love, which, being complete in Itself, desires only your good without thought of thanks, worship, or return. Ask questions, expect answers from any direction at the proper time, and your way through the dilemma will be made clear.

Mister Rand has requested us to speak concerning Donald Trump, the individual who was affirmed as the incoming President of the United States of America. Mister Rand has many fears concerning him: Rand fears that his instability will cause him to employ a nuclear arsenal against countries that annoy him or threaten his self-esteem; that he will take away Mister Rand’s Medicare and Social Security; that he will put Mister Rand into a concentration camp for being a homosexual, spiritualist non-Christian, or Jewish on his father’s side. Mister Rand’s fears are many, and that is the power that Mister Trump wields: the power that chaos has to stimulate fear in individuals dwelling in physical reality.
In the Tarot-based system of personality analysis channeled by Mister Rand and his now deceased partner, Stuart Lucker, Donald Trump partakes of the aspect of the Divine that standard Tarot decks call The Devil. In Mister Rand’s “Tarot of You” system, The Devil card is named The Pan Essence.
We should like to share with you some facts concerning Pan Essence people, and Mister Trump in particular, for the purpose of both allaying some of Mister Rand’s worse fears, and providing insight into how Mister Trump is likely to behave during his reign as king of America. For that is what he wishes to be seen as: a king on a throne, stern yet benevolent, dealing out largesse to his friends and followers, and death or ruin to his enemies.
How, Mister Rand asks, could the mass consciousness of physical reality have chosen such a person to head up the American government? To this we reply, from our perspective, that the mass consciousness did not in fact choose Donald Trump to be king of America. The mass consciousness chose the Sanders man to be the next President.
But there are many levels to the mass consciousness, including a shadow level in which live all the fears that persons are not willing to examine; and the Greater Self saw that it was time for those fears to come to light, lest they erupt in a Holocaust of force, threat, and blame. And so it was that enough individuals voted for Mister Trump that the electoral college of your America, frightened by the threat of reprisal should they vote according to conscience, chose to acknowledge Mister Trump as the new king. In this the collegians hoped that, whatever befell during Trump’s reign, at least they would be spared the worst of the repercussions.
Understand that the Greater Self cannot make people do what they do not wish to do. It can tweak probability lines in order to make certain outcomes more or less likely to manifest, but most of the time It is dependent upon the willingness of conscious beings to serve as its hands, feet, voice, and eyes in spacetime. And Its power to work through the hearts, brains, and actions of conscious beings is considerable.
We say this as preface to answering Mister Rand’s fears concerning Mister Trump and the chaos he might bring into physical reality during his tenure as President of the United States.
It is important to understand that Pan Essence individuals channel through their bodyminds the principle of unpredictability. “Pan” in ancient Greek means “everything,” and Pan Essence people can move in any number of unpredictable directions from moment to moment, based upon their Ruling Passion: the desire to satisfy their appetites for sex, food, praise, power, vengeance, and freedom from moral restraint.
The number one desire of Mister Trump is to be a more powerful figure than the father he resented and feared. A narcissist, he naturally believes himself to be the center of the universe, entitled to receive anything he desires without effort on his part. Contemptuous of those he deems weaker than himself, envious of those who seem happier than he, and enraged by those who judge him as stupid or laughable, Mister Trump seeks dominance in all areas that interest him.
This is consonant with the Pan Essence, which connects to its emotional body, the Lightning Essence, through the Essence of the Emperor. The Emperor represents the physical, political, and economic structures of spacetime. The Lightning represents the holy madness that characterizes direct experience of the divine. So power, to Mister Trump, is a drug far more addictive than nicotine or heroin.
In its most extreme manifestations, it causes those addicted to it to wish they were gods. On the other hand, Mister Trump connects to his spiritual aspect, the Death Essence, through the Essence of the Sun. Mister Trump greatly fears death, because in death all consciousnesses return to their state of union with the Greater Self.
And the Pan Essence’s connection with the Sun gives Mister Trump an insatiable craving for attention and approval. He wishes to be lauded as a benevolent dictator, and his fantasy is that, once his enemies are punished and those he wishes to impress are suitably bound to him by his benevolent placings of them into power, the world will come to worship him as the Great Daddy, far surpassing the successes of his physical father, whom he has always felt judged and overshadowed by.
And as the Sun shines its radiance into all areas of the world, so Mister Trump wishes the force of his personality to daw the rich and powerful into orbits around him, so that his appetites for wealth, status, and sensual gratification may continue to be satisfied.
The sad fact, however, is that for the Pan Essence individual, appetite is never satisfied. Always the consumption leads to more and more hunger. And in the end, the chaos at the heart of the Pan person will consume him.
What, then, says Mister Rand, can people do to survive the reign of a self-absorbed, emotionally unstable, addiction-prone narcissist? Will he bring about nuclear war? Will he, as Mussolini did in 1930s and ’40s Italy, make Fascism the new norm for American politics? In the most probable scenarios of the future as we see them, there are several great likelihoods:
(1) Mister Trump does not wish to do much work as President; he wishes to leave that work up to his closest followers, as long as he receives the credit for it. So the persons to watch closely are the Vice President, the members of Mister Trump’s cabinet, and those he places into power over various government agencies. It is these persons in particular who must be watched, their selfishness exposed, and their actions resisted. And they can be resisted to a great extent, if those politicians not aligned with Mister Trump are willing to risk loss of power and status by opposing the worst of Trump’s circle’s exploitation of resources.
(2) Mister Trump sees Vladimir Putin as a template of powerful manhood, and there is a strong likelihood that Mister Trump may attempt to exert controls over media, the Internet, and the economy [similar to those] that Mister Putin has put into effect in Russia. But in this, too, Mister Trump will be forced to think twice about the consequences of his actions when he comes face to face with the resistance of social [and political] activists in Congress, not all of whom will be Democratic Party members.
(3) As the impoverishing effects of Trump economic policies begin to be felt by working class men and women, there is likely to be backlash against him in the press, and against local politicians who supported his policies … As tensions increase, we see a strong likelihood of increased attacks upon populations seen by many as marginalized: specifically, sexual, ethnic, and religious minorities.
These must be countered by locally organized groups of the law-abiding. Many police officers will be among those who resist and decry hate crimes, and you have already seen many cities around your nation who have declared themselves safe havens for the marginalized…In the Congress and Senate, many will vie for Mister Trump’s approval and benisons, and there will be increasing rivalry amongst those who wish to rise in his estimation. Attempts will certainly be made to initiate impeachment proceedings, but these will only succeed when he turns against so many of his sycophants that they are awakened from their trances of power.
The chief strategem we recommend is that of building community on a local level, community devoted to protecting and assisting one another. The fantasy of independence must give way to the reality that interdependence—mutual support and exchange—is the stronger path to balancing the chaos. Spiritual and moral leaders will emerge, especially amongst the younger people, who will be galvanized into action as their consciences are awakened and passion for freedom stimulated.
Likewise must pass away is the fantasy of the Fisher King: of finding an earthly Father or Mother who, in exchange for our worship and resources, will make us safe and happy and protect us from our enemies. Your hands are the hands of Divine Love and Light; your voice, Its voice; and if you are willing to entrust every part of you to Its care, you will experience success and peace beyond your wildest dreams.

Nothing in physical reality stays the same forever, for it is the nature of physical reality to be constantly changing: expanding, contracting, giving birth, wielding death, bringing new life from death again. Your civilization of the West has been living in a reality of continuous stimulation to purchase objects, objects that are touted as possessing the abilities to make you feel young, beautiful, strong, healthy, desirable, hopeful, safe. No object, however, can do any of these things, for objects themselves break down, wear out, are discarded in favor of new objects. And so the cycle continues.
The only possession that does not break down, wear out, fall apart, get lost in the laundry, mess itself up by banging into other objects—the only possession that does not change in physical reality—is (1) pain and (2) joy. Mister Rand objects, “Pain can change if I am willing to feel it and work with it.” That is correct, if by “pain” one means “specific pain arising from specific incidents.” These indeed can soften into background noise, barely perceptible, with no power to limit the onetime sufferer’s life. But pain itself—one’s capacity for suffering, the existence of pain in physical reality—the fact that physical reality provides endless opportunities for pain—that does not change. As long as there is a physical reality, pain will be available.
Mister Rand finds this statement angering and disheartening. “Pain caused by resistance can be mitigated by learning to accept rather than deny what is happening,” he says. “Pain inflicted upon one by a physical source such as sciatica or an angry spouse can be mitigated by medications and physical therapy on the one hand and reconciliation counseling or divorce on the other. But you’re saying that all the claims of certain world religions, that some day God will transform physical reality into a place where no pain, no suffering, no disease, no hunger, no violence exists—you’re saying that this is not going to happen?”
That is correct. That is what we are saying. As long as physical reality exists, pain will be possible, for physical reality is a reality of hard and soft, harsh and gentle, violent and peaceful, good and evil. As we see it in fact, the only realities where pain is available are physical reality and its close companion, the plane of existence we call thought reality. Sometimes called the plane of mind or the astral plane, thought reality is the level of reality where all minds from all times and spaces can meet and interact. Of the nonphysical realities, thought reality is the closest to physical reality, and it mirrors physical reality’s joys and sorrows.
Everything that happens in physical reality sets off sparks in thought reality. These sparks become what we call thought forms, which have, to the aware human mind, all the appearance of reality. When Mister Rand goes into a mall, and begins feeling overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the crowd, he is unconsciously being battered by thought forms generated by the humans in the crowd. That is because, as Judgment Essence in his Tarot of You system of personality exploration, Mister Rand is particularly prone to sensing and absorbing the mental projections of humans and animals. If Mister Rand permits these thought forms to attach themselves to him, he begins to feel as his own the suffering of those who generated these thought-forms. And this often results in his withdrawing as much as possible from the life outside his own head.
What is the point of this discussion? Our point is that, while you are in physical reality, suffering is one of the experiences that is inevitable here. But physical reality is not the only reality in which your consciousness is embedded, and suffering is not the only experience available here. There are many joys and pleasures available in physical reality as well. Physical reality holds beauties innumerable, and pleasures that have nothing to do with possessing objects that will inevitably decay. Furthermore, Mister Rand is continually connected to the consciousness of his Greater Self, and in the nonphysical he is surrounded by what your Bible calls “clouds of witness”: disembodied friends and relatives, spirit guides, angelic consciousnesses who wish him only well and if called upon can help him make choices that will open up new avenues of pleasure for him.
For every pain in physical reality there is a solace, even if that solace be death; and for every death there is a resurrection. •

Divine Love has not abandoned us.
Despite Trump’s win, despite the triumph of the Shadow, we can survive this together.
We can band together on a local level, work on a local level, to help one another, whatever happens next.
There are small miracles on the way. Look for them. Expect them. Invite Spirit to work through your voice, your hands, your heart, your goodness, your intelligence, your kindness, your many, many talents to bring hope to your corner of the world.
Miracles can happen still.
